Outdoors People for Climate
Statement of Concern
The climate crisis is already having profound impacts on Australian environments and people and if inadequately addressed will have devastating consequences for the earth and humanity.
Urgent, effective and sustained action must be taken by governments, businesses and populations to keep global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
We, as outdoors people - outdoor enthusiasts and workers, are specifically concerned about the impact climate change will have on our way of life and work. A warming world increases extreme weather events, including worsening bushfires, floods, droughts, coastal erosion and biodiversity loss, which will have negative impacts on outdoor places and visitors.
Parks, reserves, conservation areas and all other outdoor places have an inherent value when they provide space and protection for the natural world and its species.
These places enrich our lives and provide many of us with meaningful employment.
