Together, our community made Divest December a big win for the climate and the outdoors
Our community has shown that when we come together we can move mountains. It is thanks to everyone that Divest December has been a massive success!
Our three nature and adventure loving groups, Outdoors People for Climate Action, Surfers for Climate and For Wild Places, joined forces to use our money for good. We divested our bank accounts and superannuation funds away from dangerous and destructive coal, oil and gas.
Our bold community has pledged to divest a weighty 30 bank accounts and 22 super funds.

With the average Australian bank account and superannuation fund as a rough guide it's possible that together we'll have divested an absolute whopping $3,637,800 - more than $3.5 million!
Together we've moved a stack of money away from irresponsible financial institutions (like the big 4 banks who've given $7 billion to expanding the fossil fuel industry since the Paris Agreement) and given our money to the more responsible, ethical banks and supers that invest in climate solutions, not fossil fuels.
To solve the climate crisis fossil fuels need to stay in the ground and businesses must do the right thing. Moving our money speaks volumes and helps to create the future we need.

This has been a huge win for the outdoor community and it is with great hope, passion and determination that we now move into 2021. In this new year we will continue to focus on climate action to protect the outdoors and everything else we love, all the while improving the world we live in.
